Founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Chic Media, Rachel Hollis has created an online fan base of hundreds of thousands of fans by sharing tips for living a better life while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own. Now comes her highly anticipated first book featuring her signature combination of honesty, humor, and direct, no-nonsense advice.

Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, she speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF, helping women unpack the limiting mind-sets that destroy their self-confidence and keep them from moving forward.

From her temporary obsession with marrying Matt Damon to a daydream involving hypnotic iguanas to her son's request that she buy a necklace to "be like the other moms," Hollis holds nothing back. With unflinching faith and tenacity, Hollis spurs other women to live with passion and hustle and to awaken their slumbering goals.

Review:

Girl, Wash Your Face is maybe not the book I wanted but def. the book I needed.  Rachel’s infectious energy and wit was a refreshing, no nonsense voice that really spoke to me.

Every chapter is titled a lie that many women believe. As a woman in her late 30s with one kid, this book was both fun and a slap in the face. Wake up! she was telling me. I’m a big believer in the power of YOU. That is, if you want to change something, then you need to do it. No one else will do it for you.

Some chapters were a little too long or too similar to the chapter before, but overall Hollis does something that your best friend should do – A good kick in the ass. In a very sincere and supportive way, Hollis goes about telling you the lies she was told and believed and why they are lies. She goes deep into her personal life, sharing thoughts about her husband, her family and herself. I really liked her writing and her stories.

She is a Christian author so there was mention of God etc. It doesn’t bother me, but it did take me out of the story sometimes.

Overall, I think the book is really strong and positive. I find myself thinking about certain chapters a lot and have already recommended it to some friends. I also took what she said to heart and started fighting for what I want and what I deserve. So bravo Mrs. Hollis. Message received.
