For Sophie, small-town life has never felt small. She has the Yum Yum Shoppe, with its famous fourteen flavors of ice cream; her beloved marching band, the pride and joy of Acadia High (even if the football team disagrees); and her four best friends, loving and infuriating, wonderfully weird and all she could ever ask for.

Then August moves in next door. A quiet guy with a magnetic smile, August seems determined to keep everyone at arm's length. Sophie in particular.

Country stars, revenge plots, and a few fake kisses (along with some excellent real ones) await Sophie in this hilarious, heartfelt story.

I’m a big fan of Emma Mills. Her books are especially heartfelt and insightful, warm and lovely. I loved her debut especially and her last one Foolish Hearts.

I love Sophie’s best friends who really brought Sophie out for me. I especially loved the quick banter between Sophie and her love interest August. The friendships really took center stage in this book and I really liked that. There wasn’t crazy jealously or back stabbing. It focused on five best friends and the new boy in town.

The plot focuses on Sophie trying to raise funds for their marching band to go to a special event. She tries really hard to contact a local celebrity, a singer songwriter who blew up on a reality tv show and is huge huge huge! (think Kelly Clarkson)

The story didn’t really draw me in and the wrap up of this plot made me a little mad. The ending seemed too convenient and this famous star wasn’t really fleshed out well enough for her coming to be really eventful or emotional. Without giving too much away, also this storyline focused on a secret and sadly, the redemption left me kinda cold. But overall it didn’t bother me because everything I said above really outweighed it.

Overall, it’s a solid addition to Mill’s repertoire and I think she’s on her way to becoming the next Sarah Dessen.
