My Shelf Candy for this Saturday is:
By Catherynne M. Valente
Synopsis can be found here.
Isn’t it beautiful? The deep red book, imitating old leather. The golden embelishes at the corners. The whimsical and innocent picture of the girl, facing a very fantastical dragon, who has a lock around his belly. I love her green sweater and orange skirt, the dragon’s red devil tail and long thin claws.
And what I believe really draws you to the cover, is the lettering. Bolder in parts, highlighting the words Girl and Fairyland, the clear yet slightly embellished font. You can see the magic.
Don’t you want to read this too??
That’s a great cover! I love the old book look from the old leather look with gold tooling to the font. And the illustration is wonderful. I love the smoke ring around the dragon’s tail!
This is such a great illustrated cover. I love the dragons tail through the cloud and the little girl holding the key to free the dragon. This is my first look at this cover. Thank you for sharing it!
I loooooved this book. The cover’s so beautiful in person.
