This month was really successful for me. I was able to do some major organizing in the book section, curb my spending, read what I have and took a mini break with my family!

I’m Reading Again

August was a little hard for me to get out of a reading slump. I got a lot of books from the library but then they sat there unread. Sometimes I think the return date is too daunting for me so i just don’t pick it up.

On a happy note, I took some much needed advice and decided to clean up my To Read pile. The pile was too big and giving me anxiety so I took out the books I wasn’t going to read soon and put them in storage under my bed. It’s actually a really great feeling because now I can see what I have and choose from that pile.

This is the after sorting pile, if you can believe it.

I also was really really really good and only bought Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff this month.

Knitting and Crafting

We went to Big Bear Lake for a long weekend this month and it was my first time there. Luckily for me, there was a yarn store right off the main road! We did eventually stop, but some people were reluctant.

The conversation went like this:

Me: Oh, a yarn store! Let’s go! Can we go?

Hubby: <sigh> Yeah, okay.

Blueberry: No!

Me: What? Why can’t we go, Blueberry?

Hubby: <laughs>

Blueberry: No, Mama. Why do you want to go? You have too much yarn.

Me: I can look at yarn. I don’t have to buy any yarn.

Blueberry: But you don’t look at yarn. You buy yarn. You don’t need anymore, Mama.

Hubby: <laughs>

Me: I think I just got told.

Hubby: Yeah, you did. By a three year old.

We did stop and I did buy one skein but Blueberry picked it out and I promised to make a hat for her with it.

The store was bigger inside than it looked. It housed a lot of different crafting supplies, but it seemed a bit crowded. There were a lot of smaller rooms and most of the yarn wasn’t to my taste. Sadly, the store wasn’t well laid out well either but Blueberry had no problem finding something she liked. Also, it was a hand dyed yarn that this store does! It is really pretty.

I started on my scarf. I’m already half way done. Blueberry really wants it even though it’s adult size. I’m not opposed to saving it for her, but I was kinda looking forward to wearing it myself…

Hygge

I did finally drop off Three Bags of donation items in September. They were in my car for weeks (like so many weeks, I can’t even tell you.) But I’m glad they’re gone and hopefully in a better place.

Sounds crazy, but I also started doing some Christmas shopping. I usually wait till the last minute, but I really wanted to get a handle on spending and planning this season so now I have little pile of items for friends that I’ve carefully curated. This is really satisfying to me. I’ve put a lot of time into the presents this year (hand made items, etc.)

Vacation

We took a lovely vacation to Big Bear Lake for a long weekend. There was donuts and walks in nature and kayaking. We had a lovely time and it was so great to get out of Los Angeles.

Health

I’m finally back on track. I had a cough for three weeks and didn’t see a doctor until it was crazy bad. I had to be on antibiotics for 10 days but I’m mostly cleared up now. Sadly, this meant coming home and resting most of those two weeks but I feel much better now. Trying to get back into my routine again is hard.

I did start exercising again regularly. My work friend and I are now committed to being better at limiting sugar, especially at work. (Good bye Donuts) So at least now I have a partner to help me! There is banana cream pie in the fridge that I have to keep telling myself is not worth the stomach ache, but it’s SO HARD.

That’s it for September. looking forward to October and Halloween season!
