I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Review:
Amelia Gray has an unwanted visitor, and no it’s not a house guest. It’s something dark and sinister, and trying hard to communicate with her. But is it friend or foe? And how will this mystery play a part in the life she has set up for herself and Devlin?
Book four in the Graveyard Queen series! I’ve been waiting a long time for this book! While the first three are heart gripping, and I feel complete, I was happy to venture back into Amelia Gray’s world of ghosts and cemeteries.
The deliciousness of the book is really the in the haunting, creeping elements that Amelia finds herself alone for. Stevens does a great job slowly building Amelia’s own insecurities and questions so that when a paranormal event does happen, Amelia, so normally used to these kinds of things, is taken aback, frightened and not sure how what to do next.
The story moves a little slow for me, especially as Devlin and Amelia’s romance becomes rocky and uneven. Towards about halfway through the book I felt a little lost, with only a faint forward motion. Luckily, I kept going and the lull picked up speed until the end.
Crossroads are ahead for the couple, Devlin included. What are the secrets he is trying to hide from Amelia? And how will they impact their future together? Amelia isn’t’ the only one concealing truths from her lover and the hints that are peppered through the book give us a delicious build for the next book to come!
Overall, The Visitor will be enjoyed by Graveyard Queen fans. And while it can be read outside the series, do yourself a favor and start with book one. You’ll be even more invested in Amelia and Devlin and her strange, southern gothic world.
