Min and Noah, two unlikely allies, are the thrown together by circumstances outside of their control. And it makes fo ra riveting rollercoaster.

This is my first Brendan Reichs novel and it didn’t disappoint. I really loved the tension and hostility of this world. The plot moves very fast and though the novel starts off as a mystery (who is killing Min, why? fr what purpose? How is she coming back?) it quickly morphs into something darker and more sinister. More sci-fi, for of the flies. I really liked it.

I had to keep putting it down because it got kinda intense (in a good way) and I’m very eager to read the sequel. Thankfully, books two and three are out so I don’t have to wait to read them!

Min is a kick ass strong female girl whose experiences have shaped her to be harder, stronger but not lose her compassion. She realizes that Noah has been going through the same thing but his experiences have shaped him differently. He is more vulnerable, less sure of himself, more unsteady. I loved these two characters juxtaposition and how they came together and were pulled apart by the situations.

There’s a lot of gray in this book which I love. I can’t give away what is going on but I will say it brings up some very interesting questions on survival and social acceptance, mob mentality, humanity and love.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Gotta go. I am downloading the sequel right now.
