Review:
Fallon has been waiting forever to get her love’s fortune. The town goes to Lita’s Love Charms shop every year to read their 100% accurate fortunes. But Fallon’s fortune is disappointing and sad: she will Never find love! But some of her classmates also don’t want their fortunes and a rebellion begins. Can they change their love’s fortune? Can they win back their freedom?
Utterly charming. Love Fortunes and Other Disasters is the kind of book you sit down and read and are immediately swept away into a realistic magical world where love charms usually work, the small shops contain hidden secrets and Love is on everyone’s mind every day. The writing for me was sweet and perfect, with a lovely flow and charming settings. It added to the small town, magical realism. Fallon is a fun character, battling her fortune and her own heart as she grows closer an closer to handsome but all around town player Sebastian. I loved how she thought of herself as a spunky ladies’ made, a secondary character.
Sebastian is dreamy, of course. But also sad and conflicted. I like the depths we saw in him, how he protects himself and how Fallon really broke all of that down. There are some very simple and romantic scenes which made my heart flutter.
The plot is quick and simple – can the characters change their love fortunes by finding Zita? It’s more complicated than it sounds though. It’s a wonderful story filled with mischief and magic and love and kissing. KISSING! or NOT kissing. And then KISSING! 🙂 There’s also two very romantic storylines in regards to Fallons’ best friends’ Nico and Anais. I love both of her best friends, and the small side stories they were given.
Overall, I am infatuated with Love Fortunes and Other Disasters. SWOOOOOON is right!
