Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed...

By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.

Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.

Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn't believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again--until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.

Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.

From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.

Review: Consumed by J.R. Ward

Review:

Sigh. I was so excited to get a review copy of Consumed because I love J.R. Ward. I love her BDB series!

I have to admit I was disappointed though.

The main couple is already somewhat of a couple when the book opens. They had a one night stand and neither of them will admit that they love each other, even after only just one night. I didn’t really feel their original chemistry at the beginning and then they split apart after a tragic thing. Danny is self destructive and kinda a jerk and not in a good way. And his guilt with what happened to Anne is at the forefront. Anne has something to prove and she’s trying to come to terms with what happened in that fire.

In her second life, Anne becomes an arson investigator and is looking into mysterious warehouse fires.  This plot section of the book could be filled with very interesting intrigue, but instead it’s only a vehicle for the two characters to be thrown together. And then the big reveal with the plot was a let down.

I really wanted to like this one, but I felt like there were too many characters and too much set up for subsequent books.
