How the month has flown. I’m not going to lie, it was a wonderful month. There was lots of time spent with friends and one on one time with my daughter. The weather was cool and not too hot.

Today, as I write this, I’ve just gotten back into town from taking a nice trip to see my family in NJ. We miss them a lot and it was fun to go home for a while. I was there for BookCon (more on that soon) and today, I’m spending time blogging, reading and lots and lots of laundry!

That is my daughter in her unicorn sweatshirt, browsing the books at our local Free Little Library.

Books Books and more Books

So, if you had asked me two weeks ago, I would have said how awesome I’m doing with this book diet thing.

And then, not so much. Like quickly.

I went to B&N on my day off in May and snagged an autographed copy of Wintersong. I also bought Sorcery of Thorns (I cannot wait to read this!), Enchantee, The Word is Murder and We Hunt the Flame. I know I’m supposed to be good, but I couldn’t pass those up.

At Target, I snagged an autographed copy of Hope and Other Punch Lines.

I also picked up the graphic novel The Dam Keeper: World Without Darkness. I loved the first one and haven’t read the second one yet. The third one comes out in July!

The bestest, best, full of best part? June was Book Con and I went and it was glorious and there were even more books! So stay tuned for next months’ recap when I walk about that!

Knitting

So close, I can see the finish line. I’m practically done with my Tale As Old As Time cowl (thank 7 pound, 6 ounce baby Jesus!) and I’ve started knitting on my mermaid scarf. (More on that in a minute.) I did have to rip back ROWS AND ROWS of my Find Your Fade shawl (and I’m still pissed about it) but honestly, it wasn’t working. The lace section I had just completed looked like a hot Paris Hilton mess and I couldn’t justify keeping it. I knew it would bother me so out it came. I have to redo the whole section. I must have ripped back 40 rows or so. Sigh. Oh well. Such is life.

I also started the Caress My Soul shawl from Melanie Berg. I took that one with me on my travels to NJ in May/June. I’ll have pics of that once it’s further along!

Hygge

Did I mention bookshelves? No seriously, this is the best part of this whole thing which is reorganizing my living room bookshelves. We have a lack of storage in our home and frankly, it’s better this way. I don’t want to keep more stuff. I want to love the stuff I have. So this was a great way to clean off an old bookcase that I didn’t like (and is very very worn and needed to be replaced anyway) with some new, sleeker shelves that will showcase all of the items in that area I love.

I think this was a great purchase and I know I will feel very content once the new shelves are up.

Health

Hmmm, this is interesting one. I signed up for Splendid Spoon. Have you heard of it? It is to mostly curb my spending crazy money on lunch at work every day. I work in a very touristy area and lunches run about $20 and up.

These are fruit and vegetable based soups and smoothies that will help me eat more good stuff and spend less money at work. I’m trying it out for a week and will let you know how it goes!

Crafting 101

I wanted to do a “quick” craft of cross stitch constellations. I found out many things about myself.

  1. I am not a good cross stitcher.
  2. I do not have lot of patience for cross stitching.
  3. I need to focus on one project at a time and not have too many things going at once or I will sit in front of all of my projects in a haze of uncertainty and indecisiveness.
  4. Obviously, I need chocolate.

I did my sign a couple of times and settled on using the cross stitch cotton as background. I want to try to do the work again though casey my stitches are a little uneven. I may have to practice super hard for the other ones I want to make, those stars are closer together with not a lot of room for error.

In May, I finally cut out all of the pieces for my first quilting project. But I have put this aside to start on the cross stitching project. (see? Too many projects).

Well, that is it for me! Hope you all have a wonderful month ahead!
