It happens every year and it is my favorite thing to go to!!
Los Angeles Times presents Festival of Books on the USC campus. It’s two days of author panels, discussions, book buying and performances. I love every minute of it!
This year, I could only attend for one day but what a day it was! I dragged Hubby and Thuy from Nite Lite Book Reviews. We started out early. Thuy went off to see a panel right away (she’ll tell you about it if you visit her site!) and Hubby and I went to grab a coffee and find the YA stage!
Usually, it’s sunny and hot in Southern California. But this year, there was some good amount of rain on Saturday!
Luckily, I had decided to go Sunday which was another beautiful day with a little bit of clouds keeping down the heat.
Hubby and I started off the day at the YA Stage and we were happy to hear the conversation Young Adult Fiction: Love & Other Disasters
Moderator: Amy Spalding
Emery Lord, Morgan Matson, E. Katherine Kottaras, Robin Talley
I’ll be honest – I am totally excited. Because I got a very early copy of The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson, which doesn’t come out until May!! Morgan was lovely, as always, and signed my book.
While I waited to get my book signed in the singing line, the next panel was up!
Middle Grade Fiction: Real Talk
Moderator: Regan McMahon
Leila Howland, Rebecca Stead, Melanie Conklin
This was awesome for me too because I’m a big Rebecca Stead fan! (second in from left.) Alas, I had left my copies of her books at home so I didn’t get anything signed but it was really interesting to hear her and the rest of the panel!
Here is the lovely Kristen Kittscher signing her books The Wig In The Window and The Tiara On The Terrace!
We also met some friends along the way! (the furry variety!)
After some shopping, we made our way over to a conversation at the Bovard Auditorium with Michael Conneally and Titus Welliver for their series Bosch airing on Amazon Prime.
The hour long discussion touched on topics such as Titus’s interpretation of the Bosch character, the upcoming season and where Bosch came from.
Great conversation!
A little more shopping (seriously, I was so restrained!) and Hubby and I headed home.
Last but not least! My haul for this book festival, which Hubby carried around with very little grumbling:
So. Much. Fun.
Thank you LA Times and the volunteers and staff for putting on another amazing event.
I can’t wait for next year!!!!
How did I miss this post? Tyrion! Not going to lie, maybe my fave part of the fest was his corgi butt. I was so happy it wasn’t hot this year, too. And yes, so restrained…
