August 2019 Recap

August is over and school has begun. I always feel nostalgic around this time of year. September reminds me of school starting. New teachers or new school, seeing my friends again.

Shhh, I’m reading

I finally broke down and bought Wicked Saints. I loved this book and couldn’t wait to see it on my shelf. The sequel is coming next year so I wanted it so I could re-read.

I also bought Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton. I was drawn to the cover and stayed after the synopsis. I’ll be reading this one very soon. It sounds too intriguing to sit on my shelf. I also bought a copy of Wonderbook which is a illustrated creative guide. I’ve been meaning to read this book for some time and with the second half of the year upon me, I couldn’t think of a better time to start my creative process again.

I also went to a fun book signing with T from Nite Lite Reviews.

And my fourth book of the month was Educated. This one wasn’t my fault because I had to buy it for August’s book club and the library borrow list was too long. That said, I am really enjoying the book and it was a big hit at Book Club.

Knitting

Still working on my So Faded pullover for my daughter and it’s coming along nicely. I’m finally done with the body and I’m working on the sleeves. I haven’t decided if I’m making them full sleeves or 3/4 but probably full. I love the way these colors have blended and I think she will really like this project.

I was also at my LYS and my daughter found a nice skein of hand dyed yarn. She wants me to make her a “unicorn toy” so I was on Ravelry for a bit earlier this week looking for patterns. I think I found one. Now all I have to do is finish it before she changes her mind!!

I also bought some sweater yarn for a very chunky sweater by Mrs. Moon. I am starting this project this week and I cannot wait. (Of course there will only be one day a year in Souther California that I can wear this sweater, but oh well. It’s the journey right??)

Hygge

Guys, I am SO WINNING. Like for real.

I Marie Kondo’d the shit out of my closets earlier this month. While I love The Container Store, it’s kind a far so I relied on my trusty Target to get me through.

I emptied out my hall closet and donated/gave away two sets of sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, etc. Much neater and I can find things now! Say what??

Health

Pretty damn good actually. By cutting out most/all dairy and limiting meat, I have had minimal stomach problems. Bloating has gone down and I have been bringing lunch to work more which is also awesome because that saves me a little bit of money every month.

I’ve also stopped drinking, which is so sad for me. 🙁

Overall, going to keep going and hopefully lose a little more weight.

My in laws visited us for ten days and we went down to the beach for a week. It was lovely and sunny and much needed chill time. They’re gone now but we’re sad and my daughter is particularly sad that Grandma and Grandpa are gone.

The main pic is from the Ritz in Dana Point, CA where Husband and I had a nice romantic dinner date. What a time! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for watching the baby!

And one more thing:

Parenting.

We tried to make our own magic wands, but lacked a glue gun. They fell apart after five minutes.

I ordered a glue gun ten minutes after that.
