Review:

The Firebird is the ultimate device allowing people to jump from one alternate reality to another. Just as her parents invent it, Paul Markov, one of their most trusted students, kills Marguerite’s father Henry and jumps into another world. With extra Firebirds, Marguerite and her friend Theo jump after him to get revenge. But the Pauls and Marguerites and Theos of the worlds, are they all the same person? Can you trust them?

I really enjoyed this book! The beginning is interesting and grabs you right away. But about a quarter of the way through it stalled for me. I almost considered putting it down (thank goodness I didn’t!) and it picked right back up again as they jumped to Russia. Marguerite is a smart and lively girl, fueled at first by revenge and then questions she needs answered. Paul is complicated, each version of Paul different yet similar. I really loved the romance and the chemistry between the two characters and of course, the parallel worlds! They were a lot of fun.

Side note: Loved the time in Russia. Favorite part of the book!

There are some plot holes that nagged at me after a while, which I won’t get into because I don’t want to give anything away. It sort of nags at you when you’re reading, but the romance and action is so strong, the different worlds really fun and interesting, that it’s easy to let them go. They didn’t cause me to throw down the book and walk away. The pace is fast and I was sad when it ended. It seemed like the last two hundred pages flew by!

Overall, I’m really excited about this series. I enjoyed the first book a lot and I’m looking forward to the second. (Also- those covers are gorgeous!)
