Hi Everyone!
Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday!
And thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this awesome weekly meme!

This week’s question:
Top Ten Words/Topics That Will Make You NOT pick up a book

Hmmmm…

These are more like general topics that may make me shy away from a book. There are exceptions to every rule!
1. Western
Sorry cowboys and cowgirls, but I’m not usually interested in Westerns.
Ever.
Much to the heartbreak of my father who dreamed of being a cowboy when he was young.
And enjoys watching reruns of Bonanza on television.

2. North Korea
I just found this out about myself. For book club, my good friend N picked a very well written book, critically acclaimed, award winning novel about North Korea. And while it deserves the praise, I have to say that I was pretty depressed reading this book.

3. Horror, specifically Fast Moving Zombies
Yes, I do read the occasional horror. But it’s really not my genre. I’m scared easily, especially since watching 21 Days Later. Fast moving zombies are the stuff that gives me nightmares.

4. Self Help
I’m going to admit – I read a lot of Self Help books when I was younger. (Particularly SARK with her colorful writing and positive affirmations.)
That said, nowadays I steer clear of that section.

5.  Politics

I watch the news, and and can’t stand some of the things that come out of people’s mouths. Why would I want my reading material to reflect that?

6. Human Trafficking/Rape
I have a really hard time with stories about this topic. If I am recommend or interested in a book with this topic, I’ll do a ton of research on it first to make sure it’s worth my time and emotional stress before starting it. I’ve read some beautiful novels before that include this topic, but overall, I tend to shy away from it.

7. Fairy Stories
I’m not huge on stories about the fairies. Every once in a while, I’ll stumble upon a series I’ll really love (Melissa Marr anyone?) but overall, I’m not a fairy person.

8. War
Another one of my girlfriends, who I adore, picked a critically acclaimed book about World War I for book club. Yes, I finished it. No, I didn’t enjoy it.
🙁

9. Religious media books
Sorry peeps but religious media books are not my cup of tea. I do not read TV evangelist’s books.
Books about religion are different and I’m very interested in clear and concise writing about different religions. But if you’re going to preach, preach to someone else.

10.  Graphic novels based on books
I know, I know. But I love, Love, LOVE some of these books so much, I do not want to read them in graphic novel form. I love graphic novels, but for me, I’m not interested in picking up the Twilight graphic novel, Vampire Academy graphic novel, etc. I’d rather just read the book.
When I do sit down to read graphic novels, I’d rather focus on Fables, Y: The Last Man, and Buffy instead.
