Welcome to another post for Top Ten Tuesday!
Thank you so much to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting!

I look forward to TTT all week so I’m excited what everyone has to say about this week’s question!

Top Ten Favorite Book Covers of Books I’ve Read

This is going to be hard, but I”ll give it a shot!

Collage time!

Oh, and I’m counting the Wolves of Mercy Falls, Wicked Lovely series and the New Soul series as one each! ;)
(Yes, I am cheating.)

Top Ten Tuesday! (12)

Posted April 30, 2013 by Kimberly in Miscellaneous / 20 Comments

Thanks again to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly meme!

I have a lot of fun making lists and reading lists so this is the perfect meme for me!

This week’s questions is:
Top Ten Words/Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book

In no particular order:

1. Magic– I love book about magic, especially regarding Magicians. My friends will tell you it’s true!

2. Vampires– Yes, I’m still on the kick. I love paranormal books, especially vampires. Lestat, Wrath and the BDB, Lucius, Stefan and Damon, Matthew, even Edward.

3. Ghosts/Hauntings – I love twists on the classic ghost story. The Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens is one of those that once you start reading, you can’t put it down!

4. Time Travel – I love time travel. So I’ll try any book that has it! (Time Traveler’s Wife I bought just because of the title.)

5. Reincarnation– When done well, these can be satisfying and heart breaking. I love My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares, especially.

6. Re-tellings– I’m a sucker for these!  Greek Mythology or Fairy Tales!

7. Forests/Woods – I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I associate these words/phrases with fairy tales and magic. But if a story has a mystical or creepy woods factor, I’m down.

8. Memory – This might fall into Reincarnation and Time Travel books but any one’s memory, or loss of it, fascinates me.

9. Disappearances– Real or no, I like to wonder about missing colonies, civilizations, people and wreckage.

10. Love– Ok. I’m a romantic. Any romance story, contemporary, historical, fantasy, anything. When done well, I love love stories. I love being in love, reading about love and reading about the challenges and sometimes destruction of love.

Top Ten Tuesday! (11)

Posted April 23, 2013 by Kimberly in Miscellaneous / 24 Comments

Welcome to another edition of Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and The Bookish!

This week, the question is:
Top Ten Books I Thought I’d Like More/Less Than I Did

This is a tricky one, because I find myself having high expectations about some books just because of all of the hype surrounding them. I am also very happy to find I like a book way more than I thought I would!
Books I Liked So Much More Than I Thought I Would:

1. Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake– I don’t read a lot of horror, but I am totally in love with this book. Cas is such a wonderful character, the story is fast and creepy and wow, there is some definate gore. But in a good-creepy-oh-my-god-i-love-it kinda of way

2. New Girl by Paige Harbison – I am skeptical about Rebecca remakes, especially because it’s one of my favorite books of all time. But this is not only a wonderful retelling, but holds its own as a suspenceful YA book.

3. Divergent by Veronica Roth – Pretty cautious about anything that resembles Hunger Games, or any type of bandwagon book, but Divergent is fun, thrilling and different. Tris and Four, man. Tris and Four.

4. Captive in the Dark by C.J Roberts – Self publised, romance/erotica book about a captor and his captive. Dark sex, real issues. I was thinking- how is this going to work? But it did. Brilliantly.

5. Broken by Megan Hart – I Don’t read a lot of erotica, but this is the first Megan Hart book I read and I still re-read it to its day. Yes, the sex is hot, but it’s the characters that make this book enjoyable. Real, complicated, guilt ridden and tortured, this book is why Megan Hart is a favorite among erotica readers.

Books I Liked less Than I Thought I Would:

6. Robopocalypse by Daniel Wilson– Such a great premise! But this book was just too long and fell flat for me.

7. The Vanishing Act by Mette Jackobsen – A mysterious stranger, a missing mother, an island and magic. This book should have been a slam dunk for me. But instead, I never got a feeling of warmth or heart from the characters. And the story was sadly thin, leaving me grateful it was only 200 pages.

8. Wonderous Strange by Lesley Livingston – I’m not going to lie. I’m not a “fairy” person. I don’t read a lot of fairy books, but I had just finished the Wicked Lovely series and loved it and though I woudl give this one a try. Sadly, I couldn’t finish book one.

9. Vesper by Jeff Sampson– The premise is cool, but it didn’t hold my attention.

10. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl – Are you sure it’s a male POV? Cause he sounds awfully like a whiny teenage girl. Don’t get me started.

Top Ten Tuesday! (10)

Posted April 16, 2013 by Kimberly in Miscellaneous / 11 Comments

Thank you The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly meme!

This week, the question is:
Top Ten Tuesday REWIND — pick a past topic you missed or one you want to revisit!

So I chose:
Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes.

I picked this one because I really wanted to explore a topic that was different than the last TTTs that were focused on favorite books, stories or characters.

1. “You needn’t be so scared. Love doesn’t end. Just because we don’t see each other…” -The End of The Affair by Graham Greene

2. “Who knows how to make love stay?” – Still Life With Woodpecker by Tom Robbins

3. “Then he was gone, and through he hadn’t spoken, the room fell into silence. Why, when she was the one who was leaving, did she feel abandoned?” – The Mermaids Singing by Lisa Carey

4. “Nothing says hell has to be fire…Hell could be like this. It could be darker every minute. It could be cold enough to sear the skin from your bones.”– A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick

5. “We all love in our own way.”– The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

6. “But between now and then, there was Life; and Bod walked into it with his eyes and his heart wide open.”
– The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

7. “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”– Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

8. “That’s the whole problem here. I think they just might come out. Maybe they won’t be perfect- I mean, hey cold be blurred, or cut off i the middle- but i’m thinking it’s wort a shot. That’s just me though.” – This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen

9. “We must be the worst way to die.”– Shiver by Maggie Steifvater
10. “I’m tired and I don’t want any more pain… I want ordinary corrupt human love. Dear God, you know I want to want Your pain, but I don’t want it now. Take it away for a while and give it me another time” -The End of the Affair by Graham Greene

It was really hard to settle on just 10.

Top Ten Tuesday! (8)

Posted April 2, 2013 by Kimberly in Miscellaneous / 11 Comments

TTT, people. TTT!

Yup!! I love this weekly meme, hosted by Broke and the Bookish. Every week, I get excited to do these lists. And even more excited to see what everyone else picks!

This week’s question: Top Ten Characters I Would Crush on If I Was Also A Fictional Character

In no particular order-

Matthew from A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
Complex, smart, richy developed Matthew is one of my favorite crushes. His long history, vast knowledge and fine taste in wine makes many girls swoon. Including me.

Dimitri Belikov from The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
Kick ass fighter, patient and loyal boyfriend, there’s a reason why he’s a character Richelle chose to pop up in her spin off series.

Edward from Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Controversy! Yes, I know the argument. He’s sorta stalker-ish. But there’s still something alpha male about Edward, and I’ll be honest, I’m kind of a firecracker. He would have a hard time controlling me. (ahem, unlike Bella) I’m not worried about that part.

Lord Benjamin Archer from Firelight by Kristen Callihan
Tortured, noble and cursed, Lord Archer is the beast with the heart of gold in this paranormal romantic retelling of Beauty & The Beast.

Dexter from This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
Dessen knows how to make real characters and Dexter is probably my favorite. He’s warm, patient, understanding. Boyfriend material!!

Henry from The Goddess Test series by Aimee Carter
Henry, or Hades, is patient, kind and misunderstood. His long past hurts make him a vulnerable and likeable character, as he navigates his feelings for Kate in this series. The best thing about Henry? He stumbles and falls, doesn’t express himself well, makes bad decisions and is seriously stubborn. You know, like a normal guy.

Devlin from The Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens
Detective, haunted and complicated.
Enough said.

Lucien from Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Yes, another vampire. In fact, I’m sad to see my list is filled mostly with vampires. Hmmm.
Lucien’s cutting sense of humor does it for me every time. I laugh out loud, seriously, when I re-read his letters. And I’m a sucker for a boy who makes me laugh.

Wrath, King of the Vampires from The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward
I’m sorry, did you think I was going to skip mentioning romance book characters?? Oh, you were sorely mistaken, my friend!

Eidolon from the Demonica series by Larissa Ione
Grownups only, please! This demon is hot, dangerous and a doctor. Yep!

John Matthew from The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward

He’s my other favorite character in the series, and one of the best story arcs.
Why aren’t you reading these paranormal romance books? Action! Romance! Kissing!
Go get it.

Oops! That was 11!!
And I’m SURE I forgot some of my favorite boyfriends…
