UPDATE!
End of Feb. Not too bad. I’m in the middle of reading Wicked Kiss, but I’m seriously happy I got through five of my goal books. Especially because I haven’t been reading a lot at all.

TBR Reading Challenge! 2013

Posted December 17, 2012 by Kimberly in Events, News / 3 Comments

This is it! This is the year I’m going to make a serious dent in my physical books!
No, for real. I’m not lying at all.
Not even just a little bit.

Thank you to Bookish who is hosting this challenge! And to all the other awesome bloggers who are hosting the monthly challenges and roundups!

This year, I may focus more on physical books, but that doesn’t mean I won’t include ebooks and audiobooks too! And what a pile it is!

I’m really excited about getting around to reading all of these books I have had!

Challenge Guidelines:
This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013.

Anyone can enter! You don’t have to be a blogger, as long as you review the book you’ve read! (On your blog, Amazon or Goodreads/Shelfari!)

Any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it is a book that’s been sitting on your shelf for some time now. Only books released in 2012 and earlier! NO 2013 ARCs and 2013 fresh-off-the-press releases allowed!

You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.

When you sign up in the linky, put the direct link to your post about joining the 2013 TBR PILE Reading Challenge. (If you don’t have a blog, post about it on Facebook or Tweet!)
You can move up levels, but no moving down.

Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2013, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.

On the 20th of each month one of the hosts will post a wrap-up. Every wrap-up will have it’s unique theme, a mini-challenge, a giveaway and place for you to link up your reviews from this month. For each review you link up, you will get one entry in a drawing of one book of choice from Book Depository. It’s open to INTERNATIONALS. The giveaway will be open until the next wrap up post goes up! (i.e. the entire month)

If you miss a wrap-up post + giveaway, you can link up your reviews next month. Do not, however, try to link up one review twice – we will be checking ;)

December is a wrap-up for the whole year. All the book reviews you linked up January-November + the ones you’ll link up in December will be entered into a HUGE giveaway – a box of books.

You don’t have to follow all the hosts to join the challenge, but you do have to follow all of us to be entered in giveaways!

eBook Challenge! 2013

Posted December 17, 2012 by Kimberly in Events, News / 0 Comments

In another effort to see my ever growing digital tbr pile shrink, I’ve signed up again for the eBook Challenge!

Hosted by Workadayreads.

I’m really hoping to get through a good number of ebooks this year, even more than last year. Even though they’re not physical books, I really want 2013 to be a catch up year, both for digital and physical books.

Challenge Guidelines:
This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013.
Anyone can join, you don’t need to be a blogger. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to sign-up in the comments. You can post reviews to any book site (i.e. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, Goodreads, etc).
Any genre or length of book counts, as long as it is in ebook format.
You can plan your books in advance or as you read them.
When you sign up in the linky, put the direct link to your post about joining the E-Book Reading Challenge.
You can move up levels, but no moving down.
Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2013, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.

Levels:
Floppy disk – 5 ebooks
CD – 10 ebooks
DVD – 25 ebooks
Memory stick – 50 ebooks
Hard drive – 75 ebooks
Server – 100 ebooks
Human brain – 150 ebooks

This year, I’m going to be focusing more on physical books so I’m going to set my goal for 50 ebooks in 2013.
A lot less than last year, but I’m confident this will allow me to focus on the hardcover books that are currently taking over my house! (much to my husband’s dismay!)

I’m really looking forward to this challenge! There’s still time to sign up so visit Workadayreads now! And check back here for more updates!

Update- Revised goal to 75 books.
End of June and very close to 50 so here’s my new goal. And I’m going to start reading my physical books!
End of October and super close to my goal. Glad too because I am sure I’ll be reading ebooks for the rest of the year, though  I want to focus on some physical ones too!

Update- Reached 75 books!!! :) Yay!! Success!!

Review: Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione

Posted November 19, 2012 by Kimberly in Book Reviews / 0 Comments

Title: Rogue Rider

Author: Larissa Ione

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

Publication Date: November 2012

Genre: Adult Romance/Paranormal

Series or Stand Alone: Series, Book Four

Synopsis can be found here.
NetGalley review.

Review:

Jillian has moved to a remote location in order to find peace after surviving a demon attack. She did not expect to find a handsome stranger, unconscious in the snow on her property. Taking him in, she learns he has amnesia but he can remember his name is Reseph. And when murders take place around them, Jillian and Reseph have to find information ab out Reseph’s past fast, and why he was discovered around the time these murders took place.

I really like Jillian. She is strong, tough and self sufficient.Reseph and Pestilence are so different, I wasn’t sure how I was going to forgive Reseph. Yes, it wasn’t Reseph that started war on mankind and singled out his brothers and sister for destruction. But Pestilence is the evil in Reseph, so it is hard to ignore. Luckily, Ione does a good job at making Reseph a sympathetic character.

I was really looking forward to reading Reseph’s story as he is the one with the longest road toward redemption. Jillian is a great female love interest for him as she is loyal and super strong minded, much more so than Reseph. But I’m sad to say I didn’t really feel the chemistry between these two characters. I liked each of them enough separately, but together, their romance felt rushed. By the end, I didn’t feel like Reseph’s transformation was complete. Maybe there was just too much going on in this book.

Of course it’s always good to see familiar faces again, even for a little while. Some fun characters from the Demonica series show up and Ione always writes funny dialogue, showing a lot more depth to each of her characters.

It’s still a solid book in this fun series. Just not a favorite.

Rating: 6 Good, but wouldn’t own a copy

Pick Your A Thon! Mini Challenge- hosted by The Book Monsters

Posted August 17, 2012 by Kimberly in Events, News / 4 Comments

Hi There!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks to The Book Monsters for hosting this Pick Your A Thon!

I’m running a small mini challenge here on The Windy Pages and hope you’ll participate! If you haven’t signed up yet for the Pick Your A Thon, stop by The Book Monsters!

My mini challenge today is super fun!
Just pick a song that reminds you of the book you are reading/reviewing!
That’s it!

Put the title of the song, artist and why this song reminds you of the book in the comments section. You don’t have to paste the lyrics of the song, but if you wanted to that’s cool!

For example:
When I read Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter
the song that kept going through my head was:

“Come On Get Higher”/Matt Nathanson

I miss the sound of your voice
And I miss the rush of your skin
And I miss the still of the silence
As you breathe out and I breathe in

If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
I’d make you believe
I’d make you forget

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the sound of your voice
Loudest thing in my head
And I ache to remember
All the violent, sweet
Perfect words that you said

If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
I’d make you believe
I’d make you forget

So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love

I miss the pull of your heart
I taste the sparks on your tongue
I see angels and devils
And God, when you come on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on

Sing sha la la la
Sing sha la la la la

Ooo Ooo Ooo…
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me in love
So come on, get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire and the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard
And drown me, drown me in love

It’s all wrong, it’s all wrong
It’s all wrong, it’s so right
So come on, get higher
So come on and get higher
‘Cause everything works, love
Everything works in your arms.

Happy Reading!
Oh, and the letter for today is: H
