Review:

Sophie is back. I’m so glad I finally got around to reading this last book in the series. I was glued to my chair when I read Hex Hall and Demonglass, so it’s no surprise that I had to set aside hours to read the last book in the trilogy.

I’ll be honest. It’s been so long since I read the former two books, I was afraid I wouldn’t remember everything that happened. But Hawkins recaps lightly in the first few chapters and it doesn’t take long to be fully submerged in Sophie’s world and step easily back into the adventure.

The gang is all here and the book moves really fast. There is not a lot of descriptions but the story makes up for it in some pretty funny dialogue and a crazy heroine. Hawkins is one of the few authors that can make me smile on every page. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a deeper motivation for the bad guys- Lara in particular. While it made sense why they were so crazy and bad, I didn’t buy that it was a strong enough pull for them to go down the path they were on. The series itself is fun, light and an easy read.

Overall, Spell Bound is a great last book, wrapping up most loose threads but leaving enough of the world unsettled for possible adventures in the future. If not with Sophie, Archer and Jenna but maybe with new characters. School Spirits, the stand alone takes place in this world, Izzy being the main character. I’m really excited to read this too.
