Review:
Stanton left his small Mississippi town for bigger things, like becoming a big time defense lawyer in DC. There, he lives large and free, career minded, bachelor and in a physical relationship with his co-worker Sofia. But when word gets back to him that his first love and baby mama is going to marry someone in Mississippi, Stanton enlists Sofia’s help to win her back. Much to Sofia’s disappointment.
It’s my first Emma Chase and it won’t be the last. I really liked how Stanton’s character developed, how flawed he was. The audiobook had great readers. I liked Stanton’s southern drawl, it was subtle and not sleezy. I liked Sofia’s strengths, her career mindedness and focus, her true heart. Going back and forth between both of their perspectives was fun, but Stanton’s voice really stole the show. He was hot headed and all alpha male, but that wasn’t a bad thing because it was part of his charm and his fatal flaw.
The story is predictable and fun. I found myself totally absorbed in it on my commute and that says a lot when you commute more than two hours a day like I do. I actually looked forward to getting into the car and getting lost in the soap opera drama between Stanton and Sofia. It was light and romantic and very, very sexy.
I do have to admit that while I enjoyed the audiobook, it was a bit strange for me to listen to it in traffic. It was my first audio romance book and I did wonder if the other cars could hear what they were saying, notably the steamy sex scenes. Usually I don’t think I would care, but some days in Los Angeles traffic which can resemble a parking lot, it was on my mind whether or not my driving neighbor could hear my audiobook.
That’s not to say I won’t do it again.
I will probably just lower the volume.
