Senior year is positively hair-raising.

Kate Grable is geeked out to shadow the county medical examiner as part of her school’s pre-med program. Except when he’s arrested for murder, she’s left with the bodies. And when Kate’s brother Jonah stumbles upon a dead gamer girl, she realizes that the zombie epidemic she cured last fall was only the beginning of the weirdness taking over her town. Someone’s murdering kids—something really hairy. And strong. Possibly with claws.

Is it werewolf awesomeness like Jonah and his dorktastic friends think? Kate’s supposed to be a butt-kicking zombie killing genius...but if she can’t figure out who’s behind the freakish attacks, the victims—or what’s left of them—are going to keep piling up.

It’s scary. It’s twisted. It’s sick. It’s high school.

Review:

I enjoyed the first book Bad Taste In Boys, so when Bad Hair Day came out, I was super excited to read it. Then life and other books got in the way and I wasn’t able to get around to reading this sequel until now!

It was exactly what I was looking for. Fun, fast paced and easy to read, the sequel picks up right where the first book left off. Kate Grable has just saved the world from the zombie outbreak and she only wants a normal life with her boyfriend Aaron and her best friends. And then, of course, something goes wrong. The mix of a very overly aggressive girl wanting her boyfriend, Kate’s own vulnerability and uneasiness at her new relationship, her fearless attitude towards science and her moral compass make this book so much fun.

Kate is a fully formed character who loves science and isn’t afraid to show it. She has loyal friends, a loyal boyfriend. There’s little to no girl drama, which I love. (Can’t girls get along? Like EVER?) I love how nerdy Kate is and her inner monologue is hilarious. I got all of the jokes and wildly appreciated them. I’m sad to say there isn’t a third book in the series (I was hoping for Kate to solve some vampire disease!).

The plot moves super fast which is refreshing. It’s on the shorter side, but the length really adds to the charm. There’s a lot of action in those pages, it’s a very lean book. I admit, this book came at a great time for me too. I just finished a large YA fantasy that I loved and I needed something totally different and less serious. This book was perfect. I read it in one day (early morning before baby work up and under my desk at lunch). I laughed out loud and rooted for Kate and her crazy science brain and fast thinking.

I love you Kate Grable!
