Sixteen year old Claire is almost invisible to everyone. Her parents, strangers, everyone. Until she meets Nix, a boy who knows Claire is special. And has been sent to kill her.

I loved Barnes’s book Every Other Day so I was super excited to read Nobody. Add some danger and two teenagers running for their lives, with some special powers, and it sounds like a book I could really get behind. Sadly, for me this book fell a little flat.

Nix is the most interesting character. He’s grown up in The Society and been taught to “disappear”. He learns that he can actually disappear, as he is a Nobody. He can move through crowds, not being remembered and becomes the ultimate assassin. When Nix starts questioning his world, and is thrown into Claire’s world, his inner struggles and despair are relateable and sad. 
I had a harder time with Claire. She’s a whisp of a girl, barely there at all and wanders around feeling sorry for herself. When Nix enters the picture, and she learns that she is special, her entire attitude changes. She becomes more self assured, more outspoken. It’s such a huge leap in character, I had a hard time believing this was the same girl.

And there’s some insta-love, which was more distracting than it needed to be. I really wanted them to like each other, but I didn’t believe that they did. 

That said, Barnes does a great job with her villains in The Society, and her creative explanations of energy. I really enjoyed these parts. Transferred energy plays a huge role in plot, and the explanations are very compelling.
