Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Honestly, yesterday was a bit challenging day for me at work. In fact, the past few weeks have been super busy, which brings me to my topic today!
Blogging and Reading Burnout
You may know that we did discuss this topic a little bit on our What Does The Bookworm Say? post here. But lately I’ve been feeling this more and more. Most likely, it has to do with outside stress- from work, lots of traveling, etc. But for the last few weeks, I’ve had problems focusing on reading and blogging. I’ve been busy with work, running around town and haven’t had that much time to sit still and read at all.
WHICH IS CRAZY SAD! Because the weather today is perfect for some tea and a good book. (Cloudy, overcast in the morning with a bit of fog!)
Don’t get me wrong. I WANT to read and blog. But I find myself, at the moment at least, gravitating towards knitting in front of some re-runs of Vampire Diaries. Or watching, again and again, the entire third season of Sherlock on Netflix. (OMG! LOVE!)
It’s not like I don’t have books I am dying to read! I have review copies of The Farm, Murder Complex, and others that I am chomping at the bit for. But even when I find a quiet half an hour, I get distracted easily. I get up, make tea, check Twitter, walk around, read a blog.
Do you ever get this way? A sort of quiet restlessness when it comes to reading?
I’m taking a break from blogging for a bit. I’ll be around, but the posts may be less frequent until I can snap out of it.
Have a wonderful week!!!!
I feel like this now. I’m a little bit ahead with the blog which makes it okay, but I so want to be taking advantage of the summer time.
Aly, thanks for commenting! I’m glad I’m not alone!
Sometimes I need a break from reading for a few days, but changing between genres and not finishing novels I don’t like really helps. I hope you’ll find your mojo back after a bit of relaxing of the brain ;).
Thanks Lavender!! I hope so too! 🙂
Don’t even feel bad about not feeling like reading and blogging lately! I have felt the same way many times. Right now I actually feel like I’m in a reading slump. I’ve only read 3 books I think this month and I’m sorely disappointed in myself. But you know what i realized? IF I WEREN”T A BLOGGER – then I wouldn’t feel disappointed in myself about not having ready so many books this month already. We put this pressure on ourselves when we start blogging that is so unrealistic then steals some of our enjoyment away and makes it a job.
Enjoy your knitting! I love to crochet – what are you making?
Thank you!! I never thought of it before, but you’re totally right! If I wasn’t a blogger, then I wouldn’t be putting so much pressure on myself! Ha!
I’m knitting a lacey scarf and just finished a cable hat made from malabrigo. Find me on ravelry!! I am trying, very far behind already, to knit a significant amount of christmas gifts this year! Ha! We’ll see if that works…
I totally feel this way sometimes. And it’s hard not to compare yourself to other bloggers and reader (cough cough ahem – you). But you should not feel bad about it. No one is policing you and, if you don’t feel like reading, don’t. I only managed to finish a book that I was already halfway through this weekend and didn’t write any reviews. oops! oh well the world will not fall apart and people will still read your blog. Also, I know you have tons of knitting you want to do. Since it’s not so fun to read and knit at the same time (at least for me) I say watch those VD re-runs and enjoy yourself (and call me over). 🙂
True dat! I have been trying to watch a little more netflix and knit while doing it. This weekend was a good reading weekend but you know…. there’s always more 🙂
